AI Generated Art – AI or Soul?

Using AI to generate art bypasses the human journey of developing your artistic skills, connecting to your soul, tapping into self-expression, and all of the discoveries and soul-enriching things that come from this. I’d rather have that than look at something cool just because I put in a few keywords!

Some people aren’t fully considering the deep implications of using AI for creativity. I believe we take the skills we invest in and the experiences we have into our future lives and beyond, making this a much bigger issue. With how advanced AI has become, some people may consistently choose to rely on it for things like creating art—but you’re not going to take anything with you from inputting a prompt into an AI. One person may spend an entire life developing their artistic skills and take all of that experience with them, while another person spends their time using AI and leaves empty-handed.

This is a profound shift where some people are moving away from the organic path, which is happening in other areas of life too.

It’s one thing to dip your toes in and check out something new, as many are doing by experimenting with a few selfies, or to use digital technology to help arrange or produce your art while still making a personal creation, but it’s another thing to use AI to generate art entirely for you.

If you choose to go down the path of using AI to generate your art, there is an important question to ask: Are you sure you want to choose AI over your soul?

There are ethical and legal issues with AI art as well. If an AI algorithm only learns from artists who choose to opt in or from non-copyrighted material, then fair enough (though this still has the potential to drown out human artists and make it more difficult for them to be successful). However, if an AI algorithm is learning from other people’s art without their permission, and especially if there is any form of profit involved (such as charging for access to the algorithm, charging to generate pictures, or selling generated pictures), then that is plagiarism and theft!

AI can be used to replace human creativity in all forms of art, such as music and writing, so this is an issue that applies across the board.
